Do you trust your best friend to get you a date? If the answer is yes (or at least why not?), this might be the event for you.
The Forrester’s in Surry Hills is hosting an LGBTQIA+ singles matchmaking night this Friday, just in time for Valentine’s Day because nothing says romance like outsourcing your love life to your mates.
Pitch Your Friend: Mardi Gras Edition gives patrons five glorious minutes to sell their bestie’s most loveable (and least alarming) qualities to a room full of queer singles. Think less LinkedIn profile, more unhinged PowerPoint energy.
Pitchers are encouraged to bring whatever they need to take things up a level, including slideshows, props, or sheer audacity. Just be prepared to think on your feet, because a live Q&A follows each pitch.
Drag queens Dominique Topp and Kalin Klein will host the evening and told Gay Sydney Daily the key to a successful pitch is all about intrigue not oversharing.
“The secret to a good pitch is giving away just enough to get them interested, but not enough to scare them away,” Topp said.
Topp added that the night is all about getting people off the apps and into the real world — and potentially into a great story.
“Apart from me looking beautiful, come to witness the beginning of some of the most unhinged ‘how I met your mother’ stories imaginable and to find out who actually pays for Canva,” she said.
For those keen to apply, an application form is available on The Forrester’s website, with a few questions for both pitchers and the pitched.
There are also helpful prompts to guide submissions, including passions, must-haves, favourite movies, travel spots, and books — or, at the very least, red flags to avoid.
Tickets are free, but spots are limited, so you’ll need to secure your place online.
