Editorial Standards

These standards guide everything Gay Sydney Daily publishes. Readers can hold us to them.

Accuracy

We check facts before we publish. We rely on documents, records and people with direct knowledge, and we link to primary sources such as court documents, official statements and reports wherever we can. When we cannot confirm something, we say so.

Fairness and Right of Reply

When a story makes a significant allegation or criticism about a person or organisation, we contact them before publishing and give them a reasonable chance to respond. If they decline or do not reply, we say that in the story. If they respond after publication, we update the story.

Independence

Gay Sydney Daily is independently owned. Advertisers, sponsors, community organisations and political parties have no say over what we cover or how. Sponsored or paid content is always clearly labelled as such.

Conflicts of Interest

We are part of the communities we cover, so personal connections happen. Where there is a serious potential conflict of interest, it will be flagged in the story.

Anonymous Sources

We name our sources wherever possible. We grant anonymity only when a source faces a real risk of harm, such as to their safety, job or privacy, and when the information cannot be obtained another way. We explain in the story why a source was not named, and the editor knows the identity of every anonymous source.

Privacy and Identity

We never out anyone, or report someone’s sexuality, gender identity, HIV status or health, without their consent, unless it is directly relevant to a matter of genuine public interest. We use the names and pronouns people use for themselves. We take particular care when reporting on young people, victims of crime and people in distress.

Courts and Legal Matters

We report court proceedings fairly and in line with suppression and non-publication orders. People charged with offences are presumed innocent, and we report allegations as allegations until a court decides otherwise.

Images

We credit photographers and only use images we have permission to publish. We do not alter news photographs in ways that mislead, and we blur faces where publishing them could put people at risk.

Use of AI Tools

We may use AI tools for tasks such as transcription, proofreading and search optimisation. All reporting, writing and editorial decisions are made by people, and every story is checked by a human editor before publication.

Corrections and Complaints

When we get something wrong, we fix it openly. See our Corrections Policy, or email news@gaysydneydaily.com.au with any concern about our coverage.
