Trevor Ashley’s Heated Rivalry-inspired theatre show Deep-Heat Rivalry has scored an Australian season during Pride next year.
Written by Olivier Award nominee Trevor Ashley and acclaimed cabaret performer and composer Phillip Scott, Deep-Heat Rivalry is loosely inspired by the gay ice hockey drama Heated Rivalry.
Ashley is no stranger to Australian audiences, known for his cult hit pantos Fat Swan, The White Mermaid and Moulin Scrooge!
He was recently nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical for playing Roger De Bris in the West End production of The Producers.
It’s not his first time working with Scott either, who is perhaps best known as the co-creator of the Wharf Revue at Sydney Theatre Company.
Deep-Heat Rivalry recently wrapped its London season, where critics gave it five-star reviews, calling it a “puckishly filthy delight”.
“With winning vocals, irreverent humour and sultry choreography, this adults-only panto is a riotous night, with joy (and filth) at its core,” said London Theatre reviewer Emily Godwin.
The camp musical, billed as a “deliciously inappropriate comedy”, follows Shane Hollandaise and Ilya Stroganoff from the cottage to the locker room, with parody songs ranging from power ballads to party pop.
It will even feature full-frontal nudity when it comes to Australia in 2027.
The show will play Melbourne first, from January 21 to 31 as part of Midsumma Festival, before heading to Sydney for Mardi Gras from March 2 to 14.
Tickets are on sale now for the strictly limited season.
